Oklahoma Update

Hello all,

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers, Nina and I are fine. The tornado in Moore, OK missed our neighborhood by about two miles. Our house sustained no damage, but we are as of yet without power. A small problem compared to the tragedy of those who lost children to the storm. I cannot begin to imagine how devastating that must be.

I am not one who believes that God makes bad things like this happen to punish or for whatever reason. I believe that this tragedy and all such tragedies make God just as sad as it does all of us. God created the universe with it's fixed laws of nature, and while we are blessed to live in this universe, it is nonetheless a fallen universe. Until we are called home, we must deal with it.

I know that the Bible says that God can make something good come from all things for those who believe, but I must admit, sometimes I cannot see how. I pray for all those that are suffering and hope they can find peace some day. It would be a long time if it were me.

Blessings to everyone,

George

P.S. I will get to responding to all the great comments, but it may take me a little longer than usual.

    1. Cat, thank you. We were very fortunate. Nina, daughter, the cat and house are all fine. It will be a while before this city is back to normal, but it will happen!

      Blessings,

  2. George,
I did not know that you two lived in the area. We are so glad that you are safe and are hurting for all those who have lost loved ones.

    1. Susie, thank you so much. After further review, the tornado missed us by about a mile. I was out driving today and past some of that area and it is quite unbelievable to see how much damage the tornado caused. I understand that tornados are the most violent and destructive forces in nature. I have seen the results and I believe it.

I feel so bad for the families, especially the ones that lost a child. I cannot imagine a greater loss for a parent than that.

Thanks again for the kind words,

      George

  3. I was away and blissfully unaware of the world for a short time. I am sorry I didn't check in with you. I am happy that you are safe, but I can't imagine what you are going through, (being the sensitive individual that you are) knowing you escaped harm, yet so many near by did not.

    Big Hugs, George,

    1. Willie, thank you so much.

I understand about your being out of touch. We were very fortunate that the monster missed us. We are all OK, but it is just so sad about the loss, especially of the children. I don't know if the news coverage was in such detail in your town, but the tornado did a direct hit on two elementary schools and in one it killed about 20 kids. I have to admit that while I was reading about it I almost cried. Such a tragedy! Maybe the good that can come will be an attitude of "to hell with the costs", all schools need a shelter for every student. Life will go on, but it will be a sad memory for May 20th.

Thanks for the hugs my friend,

      George

  4. I just happened across your blog here. I cannot imagine how scary that had to be. The pictures and stories from the news have been absolutely horrifying....and the kids....I can't even think about it. I have 4 little ones myself....and it just makes me so incredibly sad. I am happy that you and your wife are okay....our prayers continue for the people of Oklahoma.

    1. Lucy, I am so glad that you stopped by and welcome to my blog. Thanks for the prayers and yes we are thankful that we are all OK. In this case, missed by a mile, was not near as comfortable as the expression usually implies!

Blessings to you and your family.

      George
